Pubic hair holds a different opinion for everyone, I think it’s a disgrace how the media and porn have shown us that being completely bare is clean and the best way to be when in fact this just isn’t the truth.
Having pubic hair is totally your choice, if you love having a full on 60’s bush, go for it, if you prefer being completely bare down there then you go for it.
Having pubic hair doesn’t make you any cleaner or dirtier it’s all down to personal preference and what you prefer. Some people shave their legs and armpits and some don’t and that’s OK. Having hair on our bodies is totally natural and totally normal and not having body hair is also totally OK.
We shouldn’t allow the media and others to influence what we find comfortable and what we enjoy on our bodies. I think as a feminist, as a woman and as a human being I want everyone to know what they did with their own bodies is totally up to them.
I personally trim my pubic hair, shave my armpits and legs and I do this because I like it that way and I am most comfortable doing this. However, I know friends who don’t shave at all and I know some who go for full-on laser hair removal but they do it for them, not for men, not for society but because it makes them feel good about their bodies, which is all we can ever ask for.
Personally, I think it’s the same for men. Some don’t shave at all, some trim their bush, some remove everything because they like how it looks but they also shouldn’t be pressured into shaving or even trimming, so long as they don’t expect it of their partners.
It’s also a hugely common misconception that pubic hair equals unclean, pubic hair also keeps out bacteria from your pubic region, what makes something unclean is not washing and properly caring for your body, body hair has absolutely nothing to do with it.
Overall, I think it’s massively important to just do what makes you happy, not to listen to the media and to encourage others to do as they please with their body hair.
Educating young men and women in this is vital, both think they must shave in order to be accepted but you should only be doing this if it’s something you want to do not because your partner says so, if your partner is telling you to shave because they don’t like then you are probably with the wrong partner.
